Since the 7th century, churches on a large scale across the world have been celebrating the season of Advent as a means of preparing. The word means “coming”–and it naturally anticipates the coming of Jesus at Christmas–and it is a signal to prepare to fully celebrate Jesus with all we can.

RiverCross has made Advent a special season every year by creating unique habits and practices to keep our focus fresh on Jesus. Here’s are the ways we’ve designed for us all to step in during Advent.

Advent Candle Lighting – Bring Advent into your home by lighting candles to mark the four weeks of Advent as well as see the light of Jesus with you. Our all-new Advent Guide for 2020 gives you a simple reading, one question, and a prayer prompt for each week as you light a candle. Although the weeks and themes have traditional candle colors to match and even an advent wreath, we can all use any color, size and style of candle–even battery-powered candles.

Phone Screens & Desktop backgrounds – Keep Advent in front of your eyes all day long. These originally-designed home screens
and desktop backgrounds are available for anyone to download and use for each of the four weeks of Advent. Please download and share!

We’re partnering with Visalia Emergency Aid Council to help us serve families in our local community. This involves collecting and donating small, inexpensive items for child/youth Christmas stockings. Examples of donations include knit gloves, crayons, pens, pencils, hair ties & barrettes, small puzzles and games, etc.
> DEC 6 (Sunday 11am) – bring donations and gather for communion (we can pick up items from your doorstep if you prefer)
> DEC 12 (Saturday, 8am-11am) – Help fill stockings and/or assemble bicycles, all for kids and students outdoors at the VEAC food pantry parking lot (217 NE 3rd St.)
> DEC 19 (Saturday, 8am-noon) – Give stockings to kids and students at VEAC’s drive-thru outdoor distribution at the VEAC food pantry parking lot (217 NE 3rd St.)
